Cloth Diapers

I've been trying to figure out cloth diapering and I'm beyond confused.

Right now I'm between the all-in-ones of bumgenius and the pocketed ones of gDiapers.

Can anyone shed any light on cloth diapering and point me in the right direction?

:)

Hey Stacey!!! I can't believe you are 31 weeks!!! Sorry I have been a comment slacker over here...I have been checking in though! :-)

Anyway...we use thirsties covers with prefolds and I really like them. They only negative is they can get a little bulky. We just went up in size on her prefolds and they are a big big...so they give her some serious junk in the trunk! hehe I also have a couple bummis covers that work well, but they have more of a plastic feel that I don't like. I do have 2 of the contour prefolds and I LOVE THEM! But...again...a little pricey to buy enough to use exclusively.

My other favorite is the bumgenius. My biggest down fall to have an entire stash of bumgenius is the price...yikes! I have had a few blowouts with the bumgenius but never the thristies covers.

Anyway...hope this helps. Oh...and I use a disposable at night. She soaks totally through the CD's and I just don't want her sensitive skin sitting in a wet diaper for 10 hours.

I have gotten most of mine at Kelly's closet.
:-)

I have never commented but do use cloth diapers. I was hesitant at first and knew nothing. I didn't start until my little guy was six months old. We have a variety of diapers. My favorite are the Bumgenius 4.0! My husband prefers these too because they are most like disposable diapers. When we have another baby, I will probably do pre-folds at first. Supposedly the BGs are one size fits all but I can't imagine how they would possible fit a newborn. They would be HUGE!!! Good luck! It's great and I never thought I would say that!

I've never commented before, but I thought I'd throw out another option. We have used Grovia hybrid diapers - one size fits all from 4 months to 14 months and still going. We used disposables at first just adjusting to having a new baby, and all of our free diapers from our shower lasted that long. I got a lot of my grovias from diaperswappers.com. Great place to help you save money. 13 covers, 24 soakers and 8 boosters lasts me so I only have to wash every 3-4 days. The best part is....no stuffing the pockets!

This is my first time posting, I found you on Erin's blog. I would try to stay away from G-diapers, most people who have used them have not been happy. Like KatB said, Grovia hybrids are an option, and the Flip system works the same way as well and is an option. Generally the one-size diapers don't start fitting until 9-10 lbs. so if you would like to start cloth diapering right away, you will need a newborn stash. We are planning to do Green mountain newborn prefolds with Thirsties XS covers...a very economical option. Also Fuzzibunz Perfect size XS fit newborns if you're wanting more of a pocket-type diaper for the newborn stage. Honestly, prefolds look scary but they're not at all. I LOVE cloth diapering and haven't even started yet (I'm due in July), but have done tons of research. E-mail me if you have more questions- mindyajohnson@gmail.com

P.S. If you're on facebook, "Diapershops.com" is a great group to "like", you can get tons of info. on there too.

Oohh also, you asked about the BumGenius all-in-ones... the problem that people report with AIOs are that the take FOREVER to dry, and can sometimes get mildewy. I would do the BumGenius 4.0 pockets instead, as the inserts are removables, and also you can add "doublers" if they are heavy-wetters.

Also velcro (aka aplix) vs. snaps- velcro is easy to use and a bit more customized in the fit, however they get worn out easily and curious little ones can easily pull off the tabs once they are able. Snaps are a bit harder to use, but last longer, and are baby-proof.

Stacy's sister, Amy, LOVES LOVES LOVES the ones she is using and gave a new supply to Stacy at the Baby Shower. You really need to check these out before buying anything else. They are fantastic!! I will find out the info for you and either I or Stacy will email it to you today. I will be with Stacy today and tomorrow.

I just stumbled across your blog.... We use Kawaii pockets one size aplix and LOVE them. So easy! They are great diapers and MUCH cheaper then others. The cheapest I found them is at theloveyourbaby.com. They fit our baby around 2 months when we bought them. We love cloth now and even thinking about cloth wipes! Have not tried yet but was told baby wash cloths and a spray bottle of cloth solution (easy to find recipies on net)!

GREAT blog post I read recently about cloth diapering triplets! If I had read this before I had my twins, I might have given it a try. The savings sound amazing!
