Let's make sleep even harder!

As if it wasn't already hard enough for me to sleep (I think it was past 2am when I finally drifted off last night) the doctors in their infinite wisdom have decided to put compression boots on me.  Annoying?  Yes.  Painful?  No.  Odd enough to make it impossible to sleep?  Absolutely.  The most annoying part?  Apparently every time I get up to use the bathroom I'm going to have to be re-hooked up by the nurses.  And I go to the bathroom a lot... part of the joy of drinking ridiculous amounts of water.

Oh well... just another thing for the little guys.

You're such a trooper! And I thought bedrest for 2 weeks was annoying. You're doing great!

Call me dumb, but what are compression boots?? They don't sound comfortable whatever they are. Keep it up, you're doing awesome!

Holy cow, Stace! What's next? A huge Carmen Miranda-style fruit hat? Those docs just don't quit.

I hope you get some rest today and that sleeping with your boots on gets a bit easier...

I have the same question: What are compression boots?

They're leg wrap/boot-things that are hooked up to a machine to rhythmically fill with air. They're to keep my blood flowing so I don't get blood clots in my legs.

Just pretend you're at a spa getting seaweed wraps. Although that probably won't work if you're sleeping...no creative suggestions there. Hang in there, though-you are doing great!

Well hey- Blogger is FINALLY letting me comment!

I dodged the boots in favor of the oh-so-stylin' compression hose. Which were very very warm. On top of the IV pumping me full of mag sulfate. Which causes hot flashes. And needs to be let out of the bag in 100ml increments. Which means if your night nurse has something going on with another patient and doesn't reprogram the pump every 2 hours all night, that pump is alarming every 2 hours all night. Plus the IV fluids keep refilling your bladder all night. Waking up the pee, and just barely getting back to sleep before someone wakes you up to get vitals or draw some more blood (at 4am).

Oh, I remember it well. Sure makes you want to strangle well-meaning friends and family who trot out the obvious bedrest jokes: "Sure is a good thing you're getting all that rest now before the baby/ies come!"

Which reminds me: my mother-in-law is lucky to be alive. Very very lucky.
